On March 23, 2023, the Human Resource Department of North Tongu District Assembly organized a training program aimed at refreshing the skills of newly recruited staff in Local Government Service Protocols. The training was organized due to concerns about the adherence to the protocols on Lateness and Absenteeism, Ethics, Values and Codes of Conducts, and Leave Procedures by staff from some departments, leading to a loss of valuable points in various assessments. The training, which was held at the Royal Masito Hotel, made use of facilitation, presentations, questions and answers, and experience sharing to build the capacity of participants to perform their functions efficiently and effectively. The program was attended by a total of 25 participants, of which 12 were females and 13 were males.
The presentations focused on LGS Ethics, Values, and Code of Conducts, Lateness, Absenteeism, and Leave Procedures. Madam Rubby Besagah, the North Tongu District Director of Internal Audit, defined Ethics, Values, and Code of Conducts in the Local Government Service. She emphasized the importance of adhering to guiding principles, such as treating people with respect and dignity, being honest, forthright and trustworthy, and accepting personal responsibility to meet commitments.
Emmanuel Laryea Tetteh, the District Coordinating Director, explained the implications of Lateness and Absenteeism on the workforce, as well as penalties for various forms of Lateness and Absenteeism. The workers were reminded of the scheduled reporting times and the need to notify their supervisors in the event of any absence, late arrival, or early departure from work. The training program is expected to bridge capacity gaps in adherence to Local Government Service Protocols, improve staff performance, and boost the management and development of the Assembly.
