Directors from the NHIA, USAID, UNICEF and the World Food Programme have today paid a joint working visit to Agbetikpo in the North Tongu District and Agorta in the South Tongu District both in the Volta Region to monitor the registration of the recent Akosombo flood victims onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Providing the flood victims with access to healthcare at this critical time is essential to guarantee that the healthcare needs of these unfortunate ones are secured. This free registration was made possible with funding from the USAID through UNICEF. The USAID also provided funding to the World Food Programme to meet the immediate food and nutrition needs as well as shelter requirements for the victims. Prior to engaging with the flood victims, the team paid a courtesy call on the District Chief Executive of North Tongu District Mr. Osborne Fenu who accompanied them on the monitoring rounds. The team from the NHIA comprised Mr. Oti Frempong, Director of Operations, Mr. Raymond Avinu, Director of Administration, Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah, Director of Corporate Affairs and other Management staff from the Regional and District Office. The Team Lead for Nutrition and Social Protection at USAID Ghana, Maureen Malave and Rasheena Reid Director for Education at USAID Ghana, and Mr Robert Osei Tutu, the Programme Specialist in Social Protection at UNICEF were also in attendance.
