NORTH TONGU MARKS GREEN GHANA DAY CELEBRATION

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has announced plans to plant at least 10 million seedlings across the country as a target for the 2024 ‘Green Ghana Day’ campaign – the country’s flagship environmental initiative to boost its green cover. The latest drive, according to the minister, is expected to increase the cumulative tally of trees planted under this initiative to 52 million… marking a substantial contribution to the country’s reforestation and ecological sustainability efforts. 
The Green Ghana Project, launched in 2021 by President Akufo-Addo, is aimed at restoring Ghana’s depleted forest cover and contributing to the global fight against climate change. To date, the project has successfully planted over 42 million tree seedlings – with an impressive survival rate according to recent assessments. This year’s exercise is scheduled to take off on Friday, June 7, 2024 under the theme ‘Growing for a Greener Tomorrow’ 
This years edition in the North Tongu District was held at the Battor Senior High School. In attendance were the Hon District Chief Executive, The District Coordinating Director and staff of the Assembly, The Headmistress of the school and staff and other notable dignitaries.
