Presentation Of Economic Items to PWDs

The North Tongu District Assembly as part of its social welfare mandate to empower its citizenry, on Friday 13th March 2020 distributed economic tools and food stuffs worth GHS 165,280.00 and a quantity of three hundred and forty (340) items to Persons Living with Disability.

The items distributed included sewing machines, cornmills, deep freezers, computers, vulcanizer machines, metallic plastic chairs, rice sugar, cooking oils, weedicides and pesticides, flour, margarines, roofing sheets, pumping machines and laptops.
The beneficiaries were people who were selected from the six (6) traditional areas, Battor, Mepe, Volo, Fodzoku, Torgome and Dorfor who applied for support from the Disability Fund of the Assembly. A total of sixty-four (64) people received the items

The District Chief Executive (D.C.E), Hon. Collins Richard Arku, urged the beneficiaries to see these items as an opportunity to make ends-meet. He said “these items will help each and every one of you by providing food as well as creating jobs for you. However, it is important to make good use of the items to empower yourself economically”.

One of the beneficiaries of the sewing machine, Mrs. Florence Tamakloe from Torgome said “this is an opportunity to do what I love and also generate income for myself and my family. I thank the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the D.C.E for this great opportunity”.

Daniel Amarda from Battor, who also received an HP Laptop said, “I am really happy to receive this laptop which will help me with my studies at school. I thank the D.C.E and the President for this opportunity and God bless them".

The occasion was very successful and most of the beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to the support they have received and thanked the D.C.E and the President of the Republic for the items.
