A stakeholder’s workshop was held on 1st April, 2019 to brief members on the Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Management Plan put in place by the Volta River Authority (VRA) for the North Tongu District.

During the workshop, it was made known that the VRA will now be collaborating with the Health Directorate of the district to fight against some common water borne diseases affecting communities in the district.

On the 29th January, 2019, a stakeholder’s engagement was held at the forecourt of the North Tongu District Assembly to announce the allocation of lands to investors.

The Chiefs from the Mepe and Battor Traditional council were also present. There was also a strong representation from assembly members and people from the North Tongu district.

One of the companies present at the program is to invest $5 Million in agriculture and factories at Aveyime. Techno Bicon a subsidiary of Euroget Group and Maryna Agriculture Limited on their part will use 11000 acres of land, 8000 acres and 3000 acres respectively on the cultivation of cashew, maize, rice and castor oil.

The various investors have also promised to set up processing factories to add value to the local produce. They will also produce finished and semi-finished goods for the domestic and international markets.

The District Assembly is doing its best to provide much needed infrastructure and amenities to the citizenry but much still needs to be done. It therefore came as a relief when the companies said they will commit resources into infrastructural developments such as, the building of hospitals, schools and provision of solar energy to improve upon the lives of residents of the communities in our district.

Our DCE also gave a motivational speech to all who gathered at the ceremony. He said that, the project had come at an opportune time, especially when the government was working towards establishing factories in all parts of the country. He also advised the youth of the district to take advantage of the opportunities to be provided by the companies to secure a job for themselves, considering the high unemployment rate among the youth in the district.

The stakeholders meeting came to a close with a tour of the Aveyime Cattle Ranch on whose land the investors will be operating.

The District Assembly is positive this project will bring with it much needed development to the areas this companies will operate and to the district as a whole..
