GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING HELD ON 21ST DECEMBER, 2020

The North Tongu District Assembly on Monday, 21st December, 2020 organized a General Assembly meeting at the District Court premises. The meeting was held to discuss the pressing issues of the assembly through a healthy dialogue involving the Honorable Assembly Members, the Presiding Member, the D.C.E, the D.C.D and the Heads of Department and Units of the various agencies in the district.

The D.C.E in his address highlighted the various developmental projects both ongoing and completed by the Assembly. His address touched on Education, Health, Finance, the incoming Population and Housing Census, Elections and the COVID-19 pandemic. He said “the district has done very well in terms of the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) by scoring 100% for the 2019 assessment.

He also addressed the house on the vandalization of the office of the North Tongu district Assembly by the Western Togoland Secessionist group on 25th September, 2020. He assured the members of their safety as a joint external security task force is set up to ensure peace and calm in the district. He further entreated all to relay any information that threatens the security of the district to the appropriate quarters for immediate actions to be taken.  He assured the house of unprecedented infrastructural developments and projects in the coming years. The various heads of departments and units were called to address issues that raised concerns for the house. 

The house deliberated on various issues and with immense contributions from the Honorable Assembly members. A major concern raised by the Hon Assembly members was the delay in the payment of their ex-gratia and the amount to paid.  However, after several deliberations, the Presiding member and the D.C.D assured the house that they will make sure they are paid any amount due them. 

During the closing moments of the program, The D.C.E entreated the house to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols to prevent the spread of the pandemic. Further, the Presiding Member thanked the members for their full cooperation and beseeched them to work hard for the betterment of North Tongu District.
