During the dawn on Friday, 25th September, 2020 at about 2:40am, a group of unknown assailants vandalized the office of the North Tongu District Assembly and brutalized the security officers at post. The group was later identified to be members of the Western Togoland Secessionist group.

The group took away a Toyota Hilux Pick up with Registration No. GN 7188-18 and other office equipment. The office of the District Chief Executive and his secretary, the office of the District Coordinating Director and his secretary, the Planning and Statistics Department office, the Internal Audit office and the Environmental Health office were among the offices that were broken into and vandalized.

Following the report to the District Police Officer at the time, it was realized that two police Stations at Mepe and Aveyime were also ransacked with the police officers on duty brutalized and locked up in the police cells. The armory was also broken and all ammunitions carried away.

This unfortunate situation led to the District Assembly been cordoned off as a crime scene and members of staff were asked to stay off the premises until investigations are done.

The joint external security personnel including the Bureau of National investigation (BNI), Defense of Intelligence, the Ghana Army, the Ghana Navy, Ghana Immigration and the Ghana Police Service calmed down the disturbance in the area and have since the close of day, September 26, 2020 retrieved the Divisional Police Commander’s official vehicle, the District Assembly Toyota Hilux Pickup with some computers and accessories, fridge and chairs.
